Vacation 2019: Discovery Cove
Vacation is so important to our family. It gives us the time to decompress from the stress of work, school, and all those after school activities. Vacation also helps our family to reconnect and really focus on each other.
One of the biggest highlights on our vacation in Florida was Discovery Cove. I had never heard of this place until I heard that some friends had went to it a few years back and they loved it.
Discovery Cove is an all inclusive day resort where you can swim with tropical fish and stingrays in a man-made coral reef! Then head over to Serenity Bay which is their freshwater area that includes a huge “not so lazy river” with a bird sanctuary. You can even buy tickets to swim with dolphins in their lagoon. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a Tropical Paradise but your right in the middle of Orlando, Florida.
After checking in at the front desk (feels like a hotel check-in process) we started our morning by heading over to the kitchen for breakfast (included in the price). We had plenty to choose from such as eggs, sausage, an abundance of fruit, bagels, danishes, cereal, etc...
After breakfast the kids wanted to swim with the stingrays so we headed towards the Grand Reef area, put on our wetsuits, snorkeling gear, and sunscreen that was provided by the staff. I was even able to get prescription goggles which were great! There were plenty of lounge chairs so we found the perfect spot to park our stuff.
The best part for this mama was watching our kids’ reactions when swimming next to all those stingrays and fish. We even swam next to nurse sharks (they were behind glass)! This was the first time Ally really snorkeled and she did great! Phillip was a Pro!!!
We took a break from the saltwater and went over to Serenity Bay to float down the river. I could have floated all day! You definitely need a float noodle (provided by park) because there’s numerous areas that are 8-10 feet deep. So relaxing!! The river runs right through the Bird Aviary where you can get out and feed the birds. That was fun for the kiddos!
Lunch was also included! It was yummy! I had steak and veggies, Alex had a chicken dish, Phillip had a burger (of course), and Ally ate spaghetti and meatballs. The park also had several snack stations that provided drinks, slushees, chips, cookies, pretzels, and ice cream. The kids took advantage of that any chance they could!
We didn’t swim with the dolphins but you could walk right up to the edge of the lagoon and they would swim right up to you. It was fun to watch them. We closed the park down and was one of the last ones walking out. It definitely was a full day!
Highly recommend Discovery Cove for any family trip! Plus, when purchasing your tickets you also get tickets to Seaworld and Aquatica. So if you’re looking for an experience other than Disney while you’re in Orlando then this is a great vacation choice!
