Separation is Key!
As a child I would stay with my Grandmother during the day while my mom was at work. I loved spending my days with her! As soon as my mom would step foot in the door my behavior would change. I would become cranky and not so nice. My Grandmother would say out of confusion, “she’s been a perfect angel all day!”
Does this sound familiar? Has this happened to you?
The same works at the studio. We believe separating children from their parents during their portrait session is key to the success of the session. If we can separate, children become independent and confident in themselves. Plus a person’s (child or adult) true personality shows up when they around others that are not close family. And that personality will reflect in their expressions.
If a parent is in the camera room, the child becomes more clingy and will not let go of their mom/dad. Of course, this is not forced and if we have to bring in mom then we will most certainly do it.
By separating child from parent, we say this is where the magic begins!!!
