Timing is Everything!
A couple of weeks ago we had the honor of having Ellis come to the studio for his dedication portrait. A dedication portrait is a very formal session which requires us to use special pieces of furniture so that the gown can be draped just right because the gown is of upmost importance.
Ellis is 9 months old. We had scheduled his session for 12:30pm which was the earliest we could offer for that particular day. He came in for his session, mom dressed him, and we took him back to the camera room to begin the session. He went back without mom with no issues however we noticed that he was extremely clingy with our camera room assistant. Plus he was very tired and kept rubbing his eyes. The session went nowhere.
We suggested to mom for her to bring him back a couple days later but we would schedule him for 10:15am. She totally agreed. When they returned a couple days later, Ellis remembered us and would not let go of mom. So we walked back with mom, sat her in a particular spot so he could see her, and we began the session. He was a totally different child! His eyes were bright and he even smiled during the session. It was totally worth resetting the first session in order to capture the results during the second session.
Small children are just best in the mornings. As a mom myself, I never schedule my children’s appointments mid afternoon or later because I know my kids are fresh, new, and not as tired first thing in the morning.
So timing is everything when it comes to scheduling your child’s portrait session.
